DC'S NIGHTLIFE STRATEGY

Mayor’s Office of Nightlife & Culture Annual Report + Strategic Plan
Washington, DC | 2021

During this once-in-a-generation opportunity to reimagine how nightlife and culture manifests in the District, while undertaking its annual report, the Mayor’s Office for Nightlife and Culture (MONC) seized this opportunity to redefine its strategic plan, given the unique needs and insights gained over a year of pandemic-induced economic devastation. Engaged stakeholders (approximately 65 professionals) included the span of professionals that impact the nightlife industry - nightlife establishment owners, liquor license lawyers, Advisory Neighborhood Commissioners, and governmental and entrepreneurial support organizations. The resulting nightlife strategy provided a quantitative analysis of the nightlife economy, identified trends across nightlife-related industry sectors, delivered a roadmap with recommendations to support and strengthen businesses involved in nightlife with both short-term and long-term solutions, and detailed the unique significance of the District’s nightlife culture and how it can help drive the economic recovery of the city.
